Survivor

It's been a year. As spring comes, and many of us begin getting vaccinated, and life comes back to normal, it feels as though we have survived something.

So as I began to paint from a photo of a wild chestnut stallion, with the star on his forehead, and saw his battle worn expression and tousled mane, the name of "Survivor" seemed fitting.
I feel it. I feel the relief of springtime, the relief of the ending of the semi-sabbatical of our everyday lives.

And hope is here. We made it. We are all...survivors.

Legacy

In February, my family and I headed to northern Colorado to meet up with landscape and wildlife photographer Scott Wilson who was our guide into the Sand Wash Basin. Here's the story of that adventure:

I'm so excited to report that as a result of the auction of a print of this painting, the Wild Horse Warriors have the money that is required to get that fence built! That's a success story! :)

Flamenco Fire

This painting was such a JOY to bring to life.
Every once in a while, I have one like that: where it comes together with such ease and flow, that it feels like it was meant to be. This was like that. She just seemed to come alive off the canvas in moments, with all her regal grace and beauty.

Someone asked me, when they saw her, "Do you have a background in dance?" I have only a bit of dancing in my background, but I wish I had more. I have such a respect for this particular art form and the control and time it takes to develop. Dance is art in reality. Dance on, friends.

Completed for the dining show experience, "Body of Work", by AOC Tour, my latest acrylic painting on canvas paper: "Beauty Spill", is centered around a woman's silhouette. Created by spilled polish, it expresses freedom, vulnerability and beauty. Surrounding the silhouette are all the elements that make up a beauty routine.

Ghost Cat

Have you seen the 2013 movie, "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty?" I love it so much! In the movie, the nature photographer tells the main character (Ben Stiller) that a snow leopard is called a "ghost cat", so rarely seen that sighting one in the wild is like a miracle.

The message is that the shy, unlikely hero of Walter Mitty, is himself a Ghost Cat. So this painting is for the ghost cats.

Scarlet Messengers

Here's my latest painting, which I am calling "Scarlet Messengers".

I was getting a bit into the holiday spirit with this one and just really wanted to paint some cardinals!

I am also remembering to create an art video time lapse for these pieces as I go, and they are super fun to watch, whether you want to paint with acrylics yourself or just like seeing a painting go from nothing to something.

"Anne Raptures" Uploaded

For those who grew up reading "Anne of Green Gables" by L.M. Montgomery or who watched the movie or tv show, I painted this for us.

This painting is a fun one, because we are planning on building Augmented Reality movement into it. Before we posed our reference actress, we planned on having another actor (a boy) walk by and tug on one of her braids. She then, in a purely Anne fit of passion, chucks an apple at him.

When we have the AR ready to attach to the painting, you'll be able to download an app and watch the artwork go through all those motions. Which I am really excited about! But in the meantime, you can watch me paint the entire painting in a time lapse video on my new YouTube Channel.

Recently, I've been creating quite a few time lapse videos of my artwork. So many people enjoy watching the time lapse videos that I've finally decided to create a YouTube channel as a specific place to share these.
Many of these will be 4 or 5 minutes videos that show the art taking place, with my hands doing the work edited out. So you will just get to watch the art "magically" appear on your screen in front of you.
As I grow, maybe we'll vary the format. I used to teach painting with acrylics, and I love seeing other folks develop their art skill and ability. So we'll see how it goes, but for now, I am getting to upload all those time lapse videos that are already done. So check it out! Come join me. And share with me what you'd like to see. I want to hear!
