New Mural at the Golden Game Guild

There is an exciting new mural in process over at the Golden Game Guild!  For lovers of fantasy, in particular, this one will be very fun to see. Golden's newest business is a delightful place to visit, whether you enjoy role playing games, meeting new people in a fun environment or playing board games with your family.
And to go along with the fun of a fantasy feel, I am in the process of creating a 12' x 8' mural in the back room.  Look for magical creatures and a fight between good and evil!  Since fantasy art was one of my first loves (Oh yeah, see my 10 year old self draw those unicorns!), it has been such a delight and joy to dive into this fantasy mural.  I can't wait to show you all the time lapse!

Cherokee: The Gathering

One reason I am so inspired by our First Nations is because they understood, appreciated and used symbolism from the natural world. The colors red, black and white were very important to the Cherokee, and each of the fauna and flora that the seven Cherokee clans were named for, held significant meaning for the place that clan held within the tribe. As an artist who delights in symbolism, I love that.

I do love a picture that tells a story.
This one suggests some questions which also makes me happy.  Who is she turning to smile at, on this early morning visit?  Were they worth the wait?
She seems to think so, judging by that smile.
For me references, I used a Colorado model with Native American background, designed and fitted her Victorian costume and scoped out the setting we would use (North Table Mountain) in advance.

My partner and I found the spot we would use as our background in February 2021, at the north trailhead of North Table Mountain in Golden, Colorado.

It was then only a matter of putting all the pieces together:  our model, our costume, the location and, of course, the other riveting detail in this image:  our local horse, River.
Owned by Golden local, Karyn Peabody, who served as our handler on the day of the shoot, this beautiful horse glowed like a unicorn and had an incredibly  sweet personality.

Born and bred in Karyn's family's barn, this beautiful horse has been with Karyn ever since and the care and love the two had for each other was obvious.

We were very grateful that we were able to use her in the shoot, as River had a little health scare on the very day we were shooting, but the vet got her what was needed and she was already feeling great in time for her photo session.

Survivor

4/18/2021

It's been a year. As spring comes, and many of us begin getting vaccinated, and life comes back to normal, it feels as though we have survived something.

So as I began to paint from a photo of a wild chestnut stallion, with the star on his forehead, and saw his battle worn expression and tousled mane, the name of "Survivor" seemed fitting.
I feel it.  I feel the relief of springtime, the relief of the ending of the semi-sabbatical of our everyday lives.

And hope is here.  We made it.  We are all...survivors.

In February, my family and I headed to northern Colorado to meet up with landscape and wildlife photographer Scott Wilson who was our guide into the Sand Wash Basin.  Here's the story of that adventure:
I'm so excited to report that as a result of the auction of a print of this painting, the Wild Horse Warriors have the money that is required to get that fence built!  That's a success story!  :)

But good news!   Limited Edition prints (signed and embellished) are available if you missed out on the charity auction.  Feel free to call 702-756-7841 for more information.

Flamenco Fire

This painting was such a JOY to bring to life.
Every once in a while, I have one like that: where it comes together with such ease and flow, that it feels like it was meant to be.  This was like that.  She just seemed to come alive off the canvas in moments, with all her regal grace and beauty.

Someone asked me, when they saw her, "Do you have a background in dance?"  I have only a bit of dancing in my background, but I wish I had more.  I have such a respect for this particular art form and the control and time it takes to develop.  Dance is art in reality.  Dance on, friends.

Completed for the dining show experience, "Body of Work", by AOC Tour, my latest acrylic painting on canvas paper: "Beauty Spill", is centered around a woman's silhouette. Created by spilled polish, it expresses freedom, vulnerability and beauty.  Surrounding the silhouette are all the elements that make up a beauty routine.

Every person has their own unique beauty to offer.   Let your beauty spill forth too!
Limited Edition Prints are available.   Check out the time lapse here:
