Suzy Saves the Mesas
In the 1990's, a large well-known corporation proposed to purchase South Table Mountain in Golden, Colorado in order to build their building. When some locals found out, they were distressed at this plan. The mesas are home to dozens of animals and plants and their hiking trails are well-loved. Quickly, they pulled together a grassroots protest and managed to buy the mountain and donated it to the public. Today, you can hike the mesas and you may well run into elk, deer, and even rattlesnakes as you do so.
